Heysham vs Arnside Match Report

Heysham 213-7 from 41 overs
Arnside 140-9
Heysham 10 points Arnside 1 point

This was another encouraging performance from Heysham who dominated the days play after a delayed start. Heysham lost the toss and were put into bat on what was a difficult opening first hour after a week of bad weather. Heysham ground out a solid start despite last weeks century maker Whincup falling for 7. Dixon steadily compiled some runs but it was the middle order this week which proved to be the difference as Cupit batted superbly to score 60 and after Dixon fell for 31 the Heysham crowd were served with a feast of boundaries.

Thomas (21) and in particular Jamie Antcliffe (45) smashed the ball to all parts of the ground with Antcliffe hitting four sixes. Sam Calverley continued the assault (two sixes) on some average bowling with a rapid 18 and Finney scored 13 from 8 balls to take the total to 213. Heysham had gone from 44 from 22 overs to reach 213 in their allotted 41, a great batting display after a difficult start.
For Arnside O Hogg took four wickets but went for 59 in his 6 over spell.

The Arnside reply started poorly as Cupit took the big wicket of Lee and wickets began to fall steadily. Once again Calverley bowled superbly and gave little away and he took another big wicket claiming Richardson (20) at this point Arnside were already falling behind the run rate. Hogg continued to put up some resistance and batted well for his 34 but otherwise it was a question of how many wickets Heysham could take. The introduction of the evergreen Paul Antcliffe was influential as the wicket was perfect for him to wield his magic and he claimed 2-11 from his 7 over spell. Chris Boak (2-10) bowled really well and took a great catch to dismiss Shepherd but the overs began to run out as Arnside looked to save the match. Cupit took another wicket from the last ball of the game to give Heysham 10 points and they can be happy with a good start to the 2009 campaign.
