Westgate vs Heysham Match Report
Westgate 44 ao
Heysham 45/4
Heysham 12 points Westgate 0
The Westgate juggernaut came to a grinding halt on Saturday as a full strength Heysham dominated a one sided game against the Champions.
Electing to field first, Heysham Captain Finney expected some help for his bowlers from a green and damp track and he was not disappointed. What he didn’t expect was such a lacklustre performance from the home team.
Westgate openers Hill and Wilson took the score to 14 with few alarms before Wilson fell to Richard Cupit for 10. This was the first of 6 wickets for the Heysham strike bowler who claimed remarkable figures of 6/13 from his 14 overs. Sam Calverley provided great support with 1/11 off 7 with Paul Antcliffe cleaning up with 3/12. Only Wilson made it to double figures as the home team subsided in only 24 overs. Although the pitch was extremely helpful to the bowlers they put the ball in the right areas and were well supported by some excellent fielding and catching.
Trying to defend 44 is never easy but Peter Wilson and Danny Wilkinson were up for the challenge. Josh Dixon and James Wincup took the score to 16 before Dixon fell to Wilkinson for 9. Wincup (14) and Cupit (17no) took the score on to 30 before Wilson claimed two quick wickets. Ideson fell soon after caught off his forearm but Cupit kept the scoreboard ticking along. The winning runs, a classic cover drive for four from Cupit came in only the 15th over.
The result takes Heysham above the Champions and will give them lots of confidence going into next weeks game against Shireshead.
