Heysham vs Arnside match report
Heysham 255-6
Arnside 144 All Out
Heysham travelled to Arnside buoyant after last weeks 10 wicket win and once again the strength in depth proved too much against an Arnside team low in confidence.
Heysham were asked to bat first and made a positive start with Ideson smashing the first ball for four. However Heysham did lose a couple of early wickets but with Arnside going for 5 an over Heysham still looked well set for a decent score. Cupit batting at his natural number 3 position is in prime form and took his chances against the short boundary to blister his way to 79 and his partnership with Jamie Antcliffe (58) was worth 111 and turned the game Heyshams way. Both batsmen batted with controlled aggression as the Arnside bowlers toiled away. When Antcliffe departed Finney continued the assault with three sixes included in his 48 and Dixon a quickfire 16 saw Heysham to an excellent score of 255. For Arnside M Brockbank worked hard for 4-77 from his 11 overs.
In reply Arnside knew they needed to be positive and with the storm clouds gathering began to take the game to Heysham with Lenton (27) and Richardson (60) particularly impressive against the unfortunate Cupit. After a short rain interruption Arnside continued to go for the victory but kept losing wickets regularly as the Heysham ground fielding applied the pressure. Paul Antcliffe got the big wicket of Lee (18) and once again Jamie Antcliffe chipped in with 3 wickets to set up a grandstand finish. Arnside tried to save the game as Finney turned to Ideson to get a breakthrough. His dismissal of Barron (10) was a crucial wicket and with 3 overs remaining it looked like a draw was on the cards.
However one player always produces the goods for Heysham and he is Mr Reliable as Sam Calverley took the match winning wicket with one of his trademark slower balls with Dixon taking an impressive catch under pressure. Calverley took 4-29 and J Antcliffe 3-35.
This was a big 15 point win for Heysham and with confidence sky high at the moment people are beginning to look over their shoulders as Heysham enter the top four.
