Whos going for captain??

I saw Davy C the other day and he told me that anyone going for captain this year needed to have put their name forward by now. I was just wondering who is going for captain? Has anyone put their names forward? Looking at previous posts people are right what they say on here that we underachieved last year so we need to push on this year but from what I'v heard in the winter there actually isnt anyone going for it? Any one got any information??

Are you looking for someone

Are you looking for someone to propose yourself or is the club still looking outside the present members?

I thought young Jack was keen on it, follow the Westgate way go with youth and support them 110% !
Better to have a volunteer that wants to do it then someone who is pressed into it, this never seems to work.

Tried that before Pete...but

Tried that before Pete...but i won't go there. Other than to say 10% is more realistic than the 110% you say is required. Sorry but its true! Hence the reason why there isn't an abundance of people going for it!!

I think the outgoing captain

I think the outgoing captain had the full support of the players.

If Joe isn't going to nibble

If Joe isn't going to nibble is there anyone else wants to have a little go. Unless we talk about the NL/WCL differences we have gone a little stale!

On a serious note if your saying that the new captain is only going to get 10% then you are going to sturggle. I like Richard never felt this was the case when you played under Gareth but again I only see you twice a year.

We have Andy Hill and Dave Lord this year and I personally am really excited about the new season. I will be their if Andy needs me but in generally I can just turn up and play. Heard a few clubs are having a change of captain and struggling to find replacements so I don't think your on your own.

couldn't agree more Richard

couldn't agree more Richard every captain has had the full support of the players... Unfortunately the players don't have the power so that only counts for on the pitch! Having the support of the senior people in the club is the problem and that's where I my 10% theory from and that's why no one young was queueing up to do it. It's a thankless task unfortunately.

Oh and the last time we had a young captain he kept a very young side in the league and was removed of his duties a year later for someone who had done it before. Full support? Can't remember that lads name though, It will come to me!

In reply to your earlier

In reply to your earlier post Maverick no I am not looking for someone to propose me. My concern is that we have (on paper) a very decent and talented first team that underachieved in every way last year. I feel that with Gaz leaving, the appointment of the next captain is a massive one as it can quite easily be the difference between the club pushing on into a side capable of fighting for the title or to people leaving and the side ending up in a relegation scrap again. In my honest oppinion the ideal captain i feel would be Iddy but having spoke to him he is not prepared due to commitment levels and not knowing the club well enough which is fair enough. Now as this is starting to sound like another Rafa Benitez facts rant I will stop now but I do have a genuine concern that the wrong person could take the club backwards rather then forwards.

Joe You rant on endlessly

Joe
You rant on endlessly about captains not having the full support of the committee. In my opinion, the position of First Team Captain (Club Captain) is one of if not THE most important position in this or any cricket club. They have the opportunity to shape and to a certain extent dictate on field activities. Look at Leighton James, a really good on-field captain and challenging committee member focussed on the cricketing side of the club, not everyone's cup of tea but they were exciting times. Unfortunately more recently we've had a succession of Saturday afternoon captains including yourself, Shane and lately Gareth. No problem with that if thats what you want to do but dont complain about not getting support when you're not prepared to commit to the role. In the years that Shane, yourself and Gareth were captain, how many committee meetings did you attend....zero!! You reap what you sow!!

I appreciate the lad bit though !!

committee meetings? Don't

committee meetings? Don't make me laugh Richard, how many junior games did you attend as captain? Saturday captain? Again don't make me laugh, I played every game which involved me travelling home from leeds for half the season! I got involved with the junioirs travelled north and south watching under 16s and under 13s games home and away because that's what a captain should do. What's the committe meeting got to do with anything? The club is split between social and cricket sides and I concentrated on the cricket which is what counts. Calling me a saturday captain just shows how much attention you paid when I was captain, ask any of the juniors or the players how much effort I put in. It's there opinion that counts to me, not yours or any of the "committee". Unfortunately for you Richard the players knew why you went for captain, and why you got it!! The 1st team was made up of juniors that couldn't make a vote under "committee" rules!

by the way do you know when

by the way do you know when I was told I was meant to attend committee meetings?! In August!!! Welcome to the committee you could say!! Apparently one if the credentials for getting onto the committee is being a mind reader!!

You don't have to be a nuclear physicist to work on a nuclear power station

Seems there maybe trouble in

Seems there maybe trouble in paradise!
Does seem like there is a gulf developing between the cricket and social sides. Didn't you have to cancel your presentation night due to a social event?

It is alright having the income from the bar etc. but surely you are a cricket club first and that should be the clubs priority.
It is also the players responsibility to get themselves on the committee to make sure they have the majority vote. Youy can't really moan about the direction the club takes if no one is willing to commit the time. I know these are broad generalisation and some playing members will do a lot, but it does sound like its a few and not enough of you.

Hope you find a common ground and carry on producing the young talent but more importantly move forward together.

Paradise ???

Pete
There's never been a major problem between the cricket and social sides, its just difficult sometimes finding the balance. We have about 300 social members and about 20 playing members and although cricket takes precedence there are a lot of social members to keep happy.
It would be nice to have more cricketing members on the committee but thats problem all clubs have. We also have a dwindling number of older people on the committee whose focus is not always the same as some of the younger players, the two players we have are Dave C and myself combined age 106...enough said.
We always have a good turnout for the CricketForce events and a couple of the younger lads run the U13's which is great but a fresh pair of eyes and ears on the committee would be good.
We've also been on about getting grants together for a new all weather and some ground equipment but it really needs someone with a cricketing slant to manage this through. Unfortunately, we dont all have a Peter Robinson.
The AGM is coming up, maybe these are some of the things we should be discussing?

Captains comments

Its interesting reading all this and i understand Joes comments now that i have captained the side but can also see other peoples feelings. I do however feel that i have to get this saturday captain reference cleared up and that because i have left the club i dont want it to be a FREE FOR ALL on past captains.

I made it clear to Richard and the committee that i would only look after the playing side for Heysham 1ST Team due to work commitments and my family but this seemed to fine by everyone, its funny now that people seemed to have had a problem with that and nobody questioned this for the last 2 seasons.

Unfortunately, there are ongoing problems at Heysham C.C and i will look forward with interest on the clubs progress this year as i fear a return to the bad old days after 2 solid seasons. We will see what happens?

what bad old days?

when were they i must have missed them

In relation to who is going

In relation to who is going to be the new captain, I say Josh "Crouchy" Dixon all the way!

Dont take life too seriously, you'll never come out alive!

Apologies

Gareth
Apologies if my post has been taken out of context.
No criticism intended at all, always aware of your situation. Sorry of you thought it was.

The futures here !!

Jay I agree with Josh as

Jay I agree with Josh as captain I think that would be a good move but he is unsure himself so we need to look at alternatives and its getting closer and closer to the AGM!We need a captain to be decided asap so we can start looking ahead for the season and being a top side like we are capable. As it was my original post that started all this I didnt mean it to be a way to have a go at old captains, new captains, potential captains, the committee, social members or anybody else!!It was purely from a cricket point of view that I wanted the captaincy to be sorted so we all know where we stand and start to organise ahead of nets, training and the season! All the other things are important but what we need to focus on mainly is results on the pitch and February is the time to start, the fact that the captain is going to be a new one this year makes it even more important to have it arranged early so they can plan for the season ahead and organise things the way they want it!Like I said this was not a battle over past captains or things that happened behind the scenes in the past it was from the cricketing side that we need to start looking at who are captain is going to be and approaching people if needs be who may not want to put themselves forward. So lets focus on the cricket and break into that top 4 this year like we are capable of we dont want this team falling out over a message board lets focus on the cricket!!

get your name forward Wink

get your name forward Wink and get it sorted, dont sit back get it done.

Josh would get my vote

Josh would get my vote too

The futures here !!

Cheers Ken but as everyone

Cheers Ken but as everyone would tell you at the club I am far to erratic to be captain and have to many rash ideas haha!I agree with Josh though for captain so lets make it happen or find out what he is doing so we can find someone else if he does say no! He is the man that would be the right direction for the club to go in lets make it happen and get on with the season!

well who ever the new

well who ever the new captain is ,i am allways here if they require any help in any way.
kjc

agree with Rich and Bubble

think josh would make a good captain and have plenty of support

Mick Smith.

I think you should bring Mick Smith out of retirement, he can be the new Saturday Captain.
What about old man Anx, about time he put his two penneth in.
The old Pawn star has alot to offer.
But if the old guard is not to be had. I think Josh would make a good Captain, carry on in the Blacow traddition at the club. But if he does go for it, give him time, patience and support!
